Manuel Pellegrini
|
Ok! Not trying to be a smart arse, I didn’t go to Chelsea Monday night but my lad did, he said that the general swell of opinion on Pellegrini had changed considerably and serious questions were now being asked. WHO in general I think is a fair representation of WHU fans but I feel on Pellegrini it’s way off. Are you in general still in favour? I think we’ve been sold the oldest pup in history but that’s just me. Every successful team is built from the back & studying the opposition weakness and strengths and exploiting that, we have a Prince Charming who’s only tactic is to outplay the opposition despite not having the tools to do so.

"Every successful team is built from the back...."
He bought two new CB's (despite the clamour from the fans to keep Collins) both look good value for money and our form dropped after he lost one of those two?

We have s decent keeper. Good options at CB fullbacks are ok.
Problem is midfield

So you think Balbuena is the reason we’ve been shit for the last... however long you wanna put. He’s definitely a leader and we’ve missed him without doubt but our problems run deeper than that. 5 clean sheets all season ain’t down to 1 bloke being out injured! Hazard was on fire yesterday but I bet he couldn’t believe the space he wad given between the midfield and our back four.

So you like both the CB's he bought then, and you recognise the problems are deeper than that.
What exactly do you think are the problems that he is responsible for, or are you just blaming him for not solving everything in his first season?

This opinions on this Board do not reflect, overall, the opinion of fans. It is representative only of itself.

How about coaching the team to defend? Buying 2 centre half’s was great but you gotta coach the team to work around them, something that he’s obviously failed to do.

Next season we will definitely move to the next level. The trouble is its more likely to be the bottom six with the two cunts and baroness.

don't know why yourself, twoleftfeet and Any old iron are so anti-pellegrini
The amount of shit he's had to deal with for example the ridiculous long injury list and the best player (Marko) losing his head and demanding to leave would challenge even the best managers
Statistics prove west ham are a more attacking side than last year which we all called for instead of sitting back playing boring football

Rochesterjon:
You say successful teams are built from the back. He went out and bought Balbuena who has been excellent and very good value. He went out and bought Diop who has been excellent and outstanding value for money. He also bought Fabianski who has, for me and many others, been HOTY.
And during our brilliant run this season we definitely exploited weaknesses and played different formations in different games and also changed formations and approach quite fundamentally during games.
So, yes, whilst I agree there are questions being asked your OP loses its substance because the two things you accuse him of not doing he very clearly has done.
We are on a bad run. We have run out of steam which, in my opinion, is the fall out from such an injury ravaged season. Plus the players that have come back from injury haven't had the impact MP would've hoped.
But its ok being smart and clever during a bad run but I didn't see you posting you thought MP was the wrong bloke during December and January when he was walking on water.

Even at Man City he had some criticism for being a bit one dimensional and so I think there is something to that. Having said that, much rather him being one dimensionally attacking than have Moyes or Allardyce.
I think most of his attacking game plan has been compromised massively by injuries and players like Arnie being cunts.
My biggest criticism is that we can't defend corners or set pieces generally. He's said that he's worked on them in training but clearly it's not very effective. That's the only area where directly I can say that is the fault of him with no redeeming factors.
Overall though I'm happy with him and the direction I believe he'll take us in with investment. THe question is all about how much money we have to spend.

Re: Manuel Pellegrini

I think Pellegrini is a top manager but he's trying to do here what he did at Man City but without the quality of players to do it
He inherited an awful lot of very average players when he took over & it will take time to replace them
Bear in mind all the years of under investment in the squad prior to last summer
We have a nucleus of 4 or 5 half decent players plus a whole lot of dross. We would probably concede half the goals we have been doing if we had a competent LB for a start
My greatest concern about him is that he appears to be insisting on recruiting ageing has-beens & crocks rather than investing in the future by bringing in hungry young players in their prime
Perhaps he's being forced to do that from above?
He has been unlucky with injuries to key players to be fair, but the older players he's signed tend to be more injury prone

Unless we were in relegation trouble I won't too hard on a manager in the first season, this clearly still isn't 'his' squad.

Central midfield..
And a proper striker. Not a poacher. Someone who can lead the line and doesnt sulk (looking at you Arnie).
I think he bought Wilshire and that other guy and there injured. So we are left with Obiang and Noble. Not really good enough when we're getting bullied.
I'd be happy if in the summer we solved those problems. Got rid of Hernandez and Arnie and also start to blood in whatever we have in the academy to solve this stuff.
If we cant buy em then we must produce them. Someone up top needs to make up their mind how we;re going to do this. 11/12th for 100m spend doesnt seem great to be fair (unless your looking at Fulham..)

Re: Manuel Pellegrini

Everyone should have known (if they're over the age of 30 at least) that this season was going to be transitional. Yes, we could and should have gone further in the FA Cup, but hey ho, the team fucked up against League 1 opposition. We can blame Pellegrini for not putting out the strongest side possible, but I'm sorry, the team we had out was more than good enough to go through.
Part of becoming a big club, is building a squad so that you can allow for playing in Europe and over competitions - squad rotation is a necessity, when playing in Europe. Pellegrini found out ( brutally ) that our squad is not good enough for rotation.
MP had to find this out and show to the board, that our squad still needs much improvement. Yes, he could do a Moyes and move people about and nick a few more draws ( and maybe wins) playing safety first, bland football. But, us performing better with this same set of players in the way ive just described, would lead to the board thinking "This is alright, we don't need to keep buying top, flair players, MP can get a tune out this set of mediocre players and have a fair few games of playing lovely football"
That wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, we know. But, we'd end up still being bored shitless a lot of the time , as we have done, for best part of 10 years - and not really competing for top European places.
f Pellegrini is able to ship out some deadwood, keep bringing in better quality , we should improve results - whilst playing very attractive football.
If after all of that, MP still cant get a tune out of the squad, we could get rid of him and have a much better squad of players, at the very least playing lovely football and be ready to be managed by the next young up and coming manager.
Rochester John, I do see exactly where you're coming from with regards to MP not changing the tactics, it's frustrating to see, but that's the long game i think he is playing.
It's going to take time and patience, but i think we will progress a lot, providing the board back MP for the next couple of windows.

Just to add, of course, he needs to buy top defenders/defensive midfielders, as well.
I dont expect MP or anyone else to have us performing like the 1970's Brazilian team, in the Premier League.

Serious question rochesterjohn:
What the fuck do you expect? Do you think we should be challenging for the Champions League?
You are one of the most negative fuckers on here. I hope your stand-up routine isn't as depressing as your posts.

Re: Manuel Pellegrini

Pellegrini is a decent manager Two key factors that derailed us this season:
1) Injuries 2) The Arnie situation
Neither were Pelle’s fault and if he hadn’t encountered them we would easily be pushing 7th where I think we all agree would have been a decent finish. We could have obviously faired better in the cups but overall he has been unlucky.
